Satan is not just a formidable force inspiring fear and using sin to deceive; he is the destroyer of all that is wise, holy and righteous. "The thief cometh not but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy..." John 10:10.
Our families are his target, their destruction his prize. And we as parents are the first line of defense in this battle for our children's hearts, minds and souls. As such, it begs us to ask ourselves what are we doing to win this war? How are we encouraging our children daily in their obedience to and worship of God? How often are they seeing us read our Bibles while memorizing God's word? Do we model a prayer life of power and confidence in Christ? How often do we speak of God's mighty work in our lives and the lives around us? When is the last time my children saw and heard me witnessing to the lost? And how do they see us loving one another? Are we modeling forgiveness, patience, longsuffering? Do they see us humble ourselves before God and one another? When's the last time your kids heard you apologize even for the content of your heart?
May we model a spirit of oneness with Christ and each other. When we grow tired and need to lean, let us teach them how to lean on one another. When we rise, let them see us rise together. When we take a stand, may we lead them to stand together as a family, one unit, moving in unison with God as our Head. And if one of us falls, may we teach them to catch and uphold each other just as Christ upholds us by His righteous right hand. Parenting is not for the weak or faint of heart. "If thou faint in the day of adversity thy strength is small." Prov. 24:10. Let us commit our families to the Lord and His will while finding strength in the One who has "...come that they may have life and have it more abundantly,"
John 10:10.
